घर जब बना लिया तिरे दर पर कहे बग़ैर
जानेगा अब भी तू न मिरा घर कहे बग़ैर
at your door, i have encamped, without taking consent
even now you'll think it not my home, till i comment?
कहते हैं जब रही न मुझे ताक़त-ए-सुख़न
जानूँ किसी के दिल की मैं क्यूँकर कहे बग़ैर
she asks me when my speech is gone, when i am frail and weak
"how can i fathom your desires, when you will not speak?"
काम उस से आ पड़ा है कि जिस का जहान में
लेवे न कोई नाम सितमगर कहे बग़ैर
favours i do seek from her, with her i've work you see
she whose very name invokes complaints of tyranny
जी में ही कुछ नहीं है हमारे वगरना हम
सर जाए या रहे न रहें पर कहे बग़ैर
there's nothing in my heart that i wish to communicate
else even were my life forefeit i would surely narrate
छोड़ूँगा मैं न उस बुत-ए-काफ़िर का पूजना
छोड़े न ख़ल्क़ गो मुझे काफ़र कहे बग़ैर
to stop worshipping that idol fair, i will not agree
and this world will not refrain from crying "heresy!"
मक़्सद है नाज़-ओ-ग़म्ज़ा वले गुफ़्तुगू में काम
चलता नहीं है दशना-ओ-ख़ंजर कहे बग़ैर
tho i do describe her glance, no one can really see
till such time i do not draw a dagger's similie
हर चंद हो मुशाहिदा-ए-हक़ की गुफ़्तुगू
बनती नहीं है बादा-ओ-साग़र कहे बग़ैर
on nature of eternal truth were there to be discourse
sans mention of goblet and wine there is no recourse
बहरा हूँ मैं तो चाहिए दूना हो इल्तिफ़ात
सुनता नहीं हूँ बात मुकर्रर कहे बग़ैर
as i am hard of hearing so, kindness should be replete
i cannot understand your words until you don’t repeat
'ग़ालिब' न कर हुज़ूर में तू बार बार अर्ज़
ज़ाहिर है तेरा हाल सब उन पर कहे बग़ैर
ghalib do not repeatedly plead in her presence so
your condition, ere you speak, she does surely know
