zikr-e-mehr-o-wafa to hum karte
par tumhein sharmsar kaun kare
for faith and kindness i would ask
but you would have been shamed that way


ho jo us chashm-e-mast se be-khud
phir use hoshiyar kaun kare
on those heady eyes who's drunk
his drunkenness


who can allay?
tum to ho jaan ek zamane ki
jaan tum par nisar kaun kare
you are the life of all this world


for you
my life how can i lay?
aafat-e-rozgar jab tum ho
shikwa-e-rozgar kaun kare


you cause mischief in this world
who can complain of life then say
apni tasbih rahne de zahid
dana dana shumar kaun kare


let your rosary be o priest
bead by bead
who will assay?
hijr mein zahr kha ke mar jaun


maut ka intizar kaun kare
on parting
poisoned i will die
for who would wait for death to slay?


aankh hai turk zulf hai sayyaad
dekhen dil ka shikar kaun kare
eyes are arrows
tresses snares


which will make my heart their prey?
wa'da karte nahin ye kahte hain
tujh ko ummid-war kaun kare
she doesn't promise

aisi surat ko pyar kaun kare
